Trip 21 – Resilience and Solidarity

Trip 21 began before we even left for Ukraine. In cooperation with De Leeuw Kyiv, we planned to bring a donated van to Kyiv while also transporting humanitarian aid. Just days before departure, however, our own Vanguard-UA vehicle was involved in an accident and became unavailable for the mission. Thanks to the incredible support of our network and the quick assistance of volunteers, a replacement van was secured, allowing the trip to continue as planned.

On Thursday evening, the mission departed for Kyiv carrying medical supplies, IT equipment donated by Vrienden van Oekraïne / Stichting Diel, and other humanitarian aid. The journey was not without challenges, including border complications and a mechanical failure near Lviv. With the help of local partners, the cargo was transferred and the mission was able to continue.

Upon arrival in Kyiv, all humanitarian supplies were delivered and prepared for further distribution, while the van donated by De Leeuw Kyiv was successfully handed over for use in Ukraine. As always, the mission was made possible through close cooperation between volunteers, donors, De Leeuw Kyiv, Vrienden van Oekraïne / Stichting Diel, and local partners.

During our stay, we met many Ukrainians whose determination and resilience continue to inspire us. One encounter in particular stood out: after learning why we had travelled to Ukraine, a local couple simply thanked us for supporting their country. Moments like these remind us why these missions matter.

The visit also coincided with another large-scale Russian drone and missile attack on Kyiv. After spending much of the night in a shelter, we witnessed once again how quickly the city recovers and continues with daily life despite the ongoing threat.

Before returning home, we had the opportunity to learn more about the rapidly evolving role of drones in modern warfare and the challenges faced by those defending Ukraine every day.

Trip 21 was a mission filled with unexpected obstacles, but also with cooperation, perseverance, and countless examples of Ukrainian resilience. We thank everyone who helped make this journey possible.

Delivering hope to Ukraine, one van at a time.
